Many people ask me how to get started in shaping metal. Developing a compound curve will require changing the thickness of the metal, either by stretching, or shrinking. Often people think before they can start, they need to purchase some expensive equipment, either power or hand operated. The reality is you might well already have the basic tools that you need to get started. If not exactly the correct tools, what you have maybe can be modified, or at least what you need to purchase can be very inexpensive. So let me lay out a simple format of what you might need as a bare minimum to get shaping. |
